Energent to trial new hybrid Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) technology at leading ready-meal manufacturer

Energent has secured approval to run a technical pilot of its next-generation hybrid SynRM motor technology at a major UK food producer supplying premium ready-meal ranges to several top supermarket chains.

The trial focuses on a critical air-handling unit where the existing induction motor — rated at 35 kW — is significantly oversized compared to the actual operating load. This is a common issue in food-production environments, where legacy sizing practices often lead to substantial energy waste.

Energent’s new hybrid SynRM motors represent the latest evolution in hybrid synchronous reluctance technology, delivering:

  • High torque density in a smaller frame
  • Exceptional efficiency across variable speed and torque profiles
  • Reduced losses enabled by hybrid synchronous reluctance design and optimised rotor geometry
  • Improved reliability and extended lifespan due to lower thermal and mechanical stress

The pilot pairing — hybrid SynRM motor + EMS inverter drive — will enable precise optimisation of airflow and fan performance, allowing the system to match real site demand rather than oversized design assumptions.

This combination is expected to deliver:

  • Significant reductions in kWh consumption
  • Lower operating temperatures
  • Reduced noise and vibration
  • Longer asset life with fewer maintenance interventions

Driving success to your business

Energent looks forward to demonstrating the impact of the new hybrid platform in a demanding food-production environment, where efficiency, hygiene, and operational uptime are critical.
